چکیده

T H E effects on blood vessels of drugs commonly used in anaesthesia are of great interest to the clinician whose constant aim is to produce minimal physiological side effects during anaesthesia. A previous investigation using the Sandison Clark "regenerated" type chamber on the rabbit ear has been reported (Seldon et al., 1942). The present research has been carried out with the "preformed" ear chamber and in some cases the results differ from this earlier report. In the preformed chamber the blood vessels under observation are the original subcutaneous vessels of the rabbit ear; in the regenerated type the blood vessels are the vessels formed in the process of repair. It would appear more satisfactory to assess the effects of anaesthetic agents on the normally innervated vessels of the animal and not in those of the repair blastoma.

EFFECTS OF CHRONIC ADMINISTRATION OF TWO NEWLY SYNTHESIZED NONDEPOLARIZING NEUROMUSCULAR BLOCKING AGENTS

The potential changes In neuromuscular blockade after chronic (>24 h) administration of sub-paralytic doses of two newly introduced aminosteroidal muscle relaxants were investigated. Org-9426 (rocuronium) and Org-9487 were studied in the in vivo guinea pig gastrocnemius muscle-sciatic nerve preparation. The problems seen after prolonged administration of muscle relaxants are thought to ari...

Effects of lipopolysaccharide-induced septic shock on rat isolated kidney, possible role of nitric oxide and protein kinase C pathways

Objective(s): Pathophysiology of sepsis-associated renal failure (one of the most common cause of death in intensive care units) had not been fully determined. The effect of nitric oxide and protein kinase C (PKC) pathways in isolated kidney of Lipopolysaccharide-treated (LPS) rats were investigated in this study. Materials and Methods: Vascular responsiveness to phenylephrine and acetylcholine...

The growth of bone autografts in rabbit ear chambers.

Transparent regenerative chambers similar to the type originally developed by Sandison (1928), Kirby-Smith (1933) and Clark and Clark (1942), but with slight modifications of our own (Ezra 1966, 1967) were implanted in the central portion of the pinna (Fig. I). The table of the chamber was well vascularised and ready for bone implantation in three weeks. Autogenous bone was obtained from the sp...

Does Heart Affect Peripheral Vascular Resistance Following Myocardial Ischemia and Reperfusion?

Objective(s) The aim of this study was to investigate the overall effect of cardiac vasoactive factors during coronary occlusion and reperfusion on peripheral vascular tone, using a sequential isolated rabbit heart-ear perfusion model. Materials and Methods Isolated ears were perfused with the effluent of isolated hearts subjected to ischemia (30 min) and reperfusion (180 min, n=6). The comp...

Anaphylaxis during anaesthesia: Indian scenario

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Anaphylaxis during anaesthesia is a rare but serious problem. In contrast to the developed countries where databases of perianaesthetic anaphylaxis are preserved, none exist in India. We conducted a survey amongst Indian anaesthesiologists to study the incidence and aetiology of anaphylaxis during anaesthesia in India. METHODS A written questionnaire comprising 20 items wa...
